by Jones on September 1, 2010

Rob said 90% of this video applies to him lol. Awesome…..right? Maybe? K bye.

Rob says the lawn mower part doesn’t apply, but he wishes it did. That lawn mower is sweeet!

Hey everybody! I will be going to BlogHer 2010 in New York City this week and I am so excited! Part of the reason I am able to go is because of my personal BlogHer sponsor, Joy Berry Books. I received her “Help Me Be Good” book set a little while back and have had a chance to read these awesome books with my children. I remember having a few of these books when I was a kid, and loved them. I recognized the faces of the characters the moment I saw them. All the books teach a valuable lesson and are fun and easy to read. The set comes with 28 best selling titles, a CD of songs for each book, and a “Parent’s Guide” book that is filled with activities for the entire series! My daughter, Maddie, loves me to read them to her! Just look at all the books you get!
*****GIVEAWAY DOWN BELOW*****

Also, Joy Berry just released her new iPhone app, “I Love Potty Training“! The app includes:

  • “I Love Potty Training” Interactive eBook (Boys/Girls) in English & Spanish!
  • A Potty Tracker with “Great Job” Reward Button
  • Potty Drop Game
  • Potty Training Tips & Advice
  • Emails Diploma when Potty Training Is Complete

How cool is that!?! My son is ready to start potty training now, but I am going to wait until I get back from BlogHer to start the process! I will have a follow-up post to let you know how well the app worked in encouraging him to learn how to use the “potty”. We have had a chance to play with the app though! My son was very interested in it and had fun reading/listening to the interactive ebook. He could easily work the ebook and “Potty Drop” game by himself and sat and played with it for quite some time! I’m excited to see how the app helps my son in his potty training process when I get back from BlogHer!

Energizer® Recharge Smart™ Charger is running a contest on An Island Life AND Barefoot Mommies for TWO – $2000 sponsorship to the BlogHer 2010 Conference in New York City! EACH! That is a total of FOUR sponsorships up for grabs! This giveaway rocks my face off! Below are the reasons I feel I deserve to win one of these sponsorships…

  • When a company pays a blogger to go out and represent their brand/product they should not only look for someone with a following, but someone who isn’t intimidated to go out and network AT the event and spread the word about their company, as well. I really enjoy networking and making genuine connections/friendships with the bloggers that I get to meet in real life. I’m a positive person and would never do anything to embarrass a company that I am representing. I only represent companies that I feel I can honestly stand behind.
  • I fit all of the qualifications for the contest and can easily accept all terms. Heck I would even slap some of these Energizer Bunny tatoos on as well ;)
  • My husband is in school and I lost one of my jobs last month so finances are super tight right now, with 2 kids to take care of on top of that. If I don’t receive a sponsorship to BlogHer ’10 I will not be able to attend and will have to sell my ticket.
  • I made this cute lil promo video for the contest. Check out how supportive my #1 fan is :)

I really hope I get chosen to receive one of the sponsorship spots. I haven’t had a chance to use the  Energizer® Recharge Smart™ Charger, but I know my home would benefit from it because of all the wireless electronic devices that we own. Our keyboards, mice, and gaming controllers all take batteries. Not to mention our children’s toys and games. Take a second and check out the Energizer® Recharge Smart™ Charger’s cool features. :)

•Countdown timer shows how long until batteries are chargedenergizer rechager
•Battery Fuel Guage shows charge status
•Bad Battery Alert detects alerts and shuts off charging when a non-NiMH or old NiMH battery is inserted

A Princess F@#%ing Chair

by Jones on July 7, 2010

I found this lil gem of Maddie when she was 3 years old, the other night, and decided to post it for you. Enjoy ;)

So, Maddie kept trying to tell me something, and I could NOT figure out what she was saying, so in the mean time while I was trying to listen and figure it out, I decided to film her while she explained it to me. Here is 1 minute and 12 seconds of my potty mouth daughter. I did finally figure out what she was saying at the end of the video.

Sorry, I didn’t used to know they made shirts for small people when I filmed this. So don’t mind that…

Avatar The Last Airbender Cartoon

by Jones on June 15, 2010

So I am noticing certain personality traits that my daughter is developing (not from me) that are similar to one of my sister’s personalities (which btw is the complete opposite of mine). So now I am a little paranoid that she will develop some of the other traits that are typical of that type of personality….(i.e. tactless, then immediately feels bad; bossy; likes to be in control; judgemental, jealous, self-righteous etc) Okay those are some of the bad traits. There are LOTS of good ones too, but that is not the point of this post. The point is I was being forced to watch the old Avatar cartoon (since Rob is in love with it and watches it with Maddie) and saw this clip below that made me worry that Maddie might possibly be like this when she is in a relationship as a teenager!!! Not the first girl character (that’s my personality type, obviously!) The second girl is who I am concerned Maddie could be like hahaha (scares boys off). This cartoon is actually quite amusing btw…. (ALSO keep in mind these girls are part of the fire bending clan which are the bad guys in this show…)

In case you guys haven’t seen these already, I just wanted to put some of these pictures up and tell you about how I magically got to participate in the 30 Strangers Project.

What is the 30 Strangers Project?

For the entire month of April 2010, photographer Justin Hackworth, made a portrait of a mother and daughter every day. 30 portraits – 30 days. You had to have never met him before. Maddie and I were Day 28.

The mother and daughter selected for Day 28 weren’t able to make it and emailed Justin to let him know. At the same time I emailed Justin to find out if every day was full, hoping I would be able to be apart of the project.  I fit the criteria he was looking for and the only time I had available to do the shoot before going on vacation, was the exact time frame he had open to do it. :)  It was so fun working with Justin. He is funny and laid back. When I went back to view the photos, he presented them on a large screen with a projector. Very cool to see them like that. He made us a cute “Welcome” sign and we got some yummy truffles and a lollipop on the way out! To participate in the “30 Strangers Project” you had to make a $45 donation to The Center For Women & Children in Crisis. Maddie and I had so much fun doing this. I’m glad that I have these beautiful shots of me and my Moo, and the project was for a good cause! Bonus :)

The End :)

Glamour Shots Gone Wild-Blog Carnival

by Jones on April 15, 2010

Okay, Kristina. Just for you!

People. I have made an executive decision to participate in the “Glamour Shots Gone Wild-Blog Carnival”. Kristina over at Pulsipher Predilections, makes up these wonderful blog ideas to help us all feel better about ourselves and uplift our spirits. I personally feel great about this Glamour Shot because I was 12 years old and that is when I was in my prime. Physically, athletically, and probably mentally too…maybe. Anyway, I asked the Glamour Shots people to make me look 17 years old and clearly, we can all see that they acheived their goal…. ;)

You too can post an old Glamout Shot (or if you’re cool, a recent one) on your blog and participate in this uplifting, non-judgmental, activity. Just click on the button below and go link up on Kristina’s blog :)
